AWW! Happy sweet 16. Well if you have "quite a few" as in a couple...just hang out, not a big party. But if you have "quite a few" as in a enough to throw a party...I would just suggest chillin. When they bring gifts...don't open them when the people are there. Open them when they leave and send out thank you cards so you don't have everyone watchin you do that. And if it's in your backyard..set up games for people to play, like volleyball. Get water balloons and play games too. Don't be shy, they are just your friends anyways. You shouldn't be shy around them. LOL!
Good luck hun and God bless...

Happy Early Sweet Sixteen. That's such a fun age!! If you are planning on inviting your friends, you shouldn't be as shy. They are your FRIENDS. Remember that they already like you. Do you have a pool? You could all go swimming. Dont' like the idea of getting in a swim suit? Try filling up a ton of water balloons and having a water balloon fight. That was a big hit at my 16th B-Day party. Dont' open presents there but remember to thank those that gave you gifts. Make sure you have a snack table set up with all kinds of goodies. I suggest healthy stuff like carrots and celery..that whole deal, as well as junk food like chips, cookies, and brownies. Have coolers with sodas and waters in them. Play backyard games like soccer-if you have a big backyard or volleyball. Decorate, but dont' do anything lame like party hats and pinatas. I had white x-mas lights that i put along the fence and in the trees and I turned them on when it got darker. If its not going to be dark or shady, go light on the decorations. No one likes corny party decorations. Make sure you have music. Have friends bring over some of their favorite CD's, label them when they get there so they dont' get mixed up, and use those. That way, you're making your friends happy too. Have cake and ice-cream. Have fun. Being sixteen is a BLAST. And birthday parties are all about hanging out with your friends to celebrate YOU. Congratulations on being almost 16.

LOL.. my lil sis is also thinking about throwing her sweet sixteen years old party too.. anyway since you are thinking about throwing it on ur backyard, you need a lot of outside activity.
first pick the theme (such as): beach party on backyard with kitty kid pool (if you don't have a real pool) or something with funky music and stuff.
then activity will be like water fight, you know to cool everything off. you know like playing with the water and try to get each other wet or something. another acitvity you could do is beach volleyball tournment, or ice-cream eating contest, holahoot contest.
make your activity which involve everyone and include what everyone like.

Have a beach-themed party! Have great music playing and ask all of your guests to show up looking like they are ready for a luau or a cruise in the Bahamas! Serve tropical food like chilled shrimp, BBQ chicken kabobs and fresh fruit. Give each of your guests a party favor (www.orientaltrading.com) and pick out something fun for you to wear. I recommend shopping at Breezy Beach Wear (www.breezybeachwear.com).
Have fun!

Theme parties are fun, especially when people dress up. LIke a 70's or 80's party or something like that. You can get away with a cheep budget, silly music, cheesy decorations and outfits and not be embarrassed.
