I have cats, rats, guinea pigs, 17 birds, two tanks of fish and several dust bunnies. (potential husband might be in there somewhere). Most of my guys 'talk' when food's involved.

The birds really do talk to me. My male cockatiel will say 'Night Night!' if I take too long before bed. If I don't turn the lights off and cover him up, he starts screaming >.< . Their chicks make this crying noise that sounds like an 8 year old yelling. It remind me of a kid screaming 'Mom! Mom! Mom! Mooooooooooooooooooooooooooom!'

The rats, if they could speak would say 'MORE FOOD! Weeee! Play time.. wait.. there's even more food here... OOH! New tube! Better put the food here!.. No Wait... Susan! Give the blinking strawberry back! Mooooooom! Hey Fred.. I want your piece. It's bigger than mine. No.. give me it. GIMME! Ooh! New tube!'

The guinea pigs 'Wheek' all the time. I swear they're saying 'Food.. food. FOOOD! I need more fooooooooood here! Hey, Spock (My other guinea pig) Lets play! Hey, we got more HAY! Fooooooooooood. **munch munch munch** EEK! Go hide!'

The cats have perfected the GLARE. They don't need to talk. All they have to do is stare at me like some angry god and they get their bowls refilled. Mind you they do a cute 'feed me' dance when I open the cupboard door that has their canned cat food in it. Then they try to trip me in order to get the food.

The fish are a different bunch. The Goldfish doesn't say much . It often says: 'Later daaa. Swimming. Just swimming. Laaalaaalaaa.. OH TURD! Bleck. Bad taste. Laaaaaaaaaa...OH FOOD!... Laaaaaa. I'm a fish. I like to swim. Laa tee da.'

The guppies think as a school. They see me beside the tank and they seem to say 'Grub's here!'. They all dart to the top of the tank and wait. The rest of the time it's just looking for the rest of the food they missed during the morning feeding. Maybe they say 'Dang it! Contractions!' when they give birth. Those crazy stinkers breed like crazy!

I have a cat who has learned to communicate very well with me. He has one way of telling me that his food bowl is low. Another way to tell me when his water is low. Another when his litter box needs changed. When he thinks it’s time for me to go to bed, and get up. When he would like to go out on the porch. And when he wants me to play with him. Though he doesn’t actually talk, he tells me what he wants and seemingly understands my responses. I know people whom I can’t communicate with as well.
