In many careers, sadly, yes. In all careers, no.

On average, yes. Someone else said about 57%; I think I last read it's now 67%. But that's still bad. The jobs that are mostly female (childcare, service/cleaning, etc.) are low-wage jobs. Other jobs that women do pay them less because they have to take off time for child rearing. This puts them years behind in pay raises. Women are also more likely to have to work only part-time so they can be with their children. Even though there are more women in college than men, they lose ground later. Bias is still a factor, as always.

No. Regardless of the propaganda, men and women make the same money. If it were not the case, every corporation in the country would immediately phase out all male employees and hire women doing equal work for less pay and hence, make more profits.

If you want the truth without the hype don't go to the national organization of womens website, go to the United States department of labor statistics website.

Overall, yes, men still make more.
The history of it is... that it was one of the central issues of the women's movement in the 1960's and 70's. Women were coming into the workplace in growing numbers but found a "man's world" and resistance to them in many cases. And wages and promotions were not given to women equally because of the long history of men being the workers and wage earners.
30 + years later it has improved, but is still not equal. Now there are other issues such as: women's family responsibilties that exist while working that must be taken care of, concern that may leave for preganancy or other family issues after money and time is spent on training, etc.
The man is still most commonly perecieved as the bread winner and women sre still not seen equally overall.
So... why has there not been a woman President?

Unfortunately, yes for now but it will be changing soon. Women are finding their way up the ranks more and more.

Although there are some very powerful women out there who make much more than men.

Condi Rice Secretary of State and Oprah Winfrey are two of the women I think have lots of power and make GOOD $.

I wouldn't be surprised if sometime soon we elected a woman for president.

I agree with jims bong ....for now.
