If you remember in the WBs Dawson's Creek, Katie Holmes was always the self-centered, cold-hearted b?tch character. Yunno, "pretty face/killer heart". Could it be that this is who Katie Holmes really is, and instinctively "knew" what was required?

It was a show put on by Tom and his Scientology friends to improve his image, make him look more macho. Also to prove he actually father a child himself. Katie Holmes was more or less hired for the female lead thinking she would go to bigger and better things and it didn't work out that way. The reason Tom divorced Nicole was because she was becoming a bigger star then him and he wasn't going to allow that with Katie or Kate as she is now known.
