I gave a speech on How to read your Electric Meter. It turns out to be VERY simple, and allows one to monitor their energy usage, and double-check the meter reader from the utility co.

Please do not speak about a political topic, such as abortion and such. If you are speaking to adults or even teenagers, they have usual made up there minds aobut these topics and the point of a persuasive speech or essay to to effectively PERSUADE not just argue. If you can do this, and actually make the audience, or reader, want to act on the topic, it;ll make ur speech or essay that much better. Like the guy on here who posted about speaking about having a fish as a pet instead of cats n dogs. THIS kind of topic will get ur audiences attention, and will not just make ur audiences skeptical, per se. and yes.
Im actually working on a persuasive speech right now. and i wanted to speak against the NAFTA super highway. But i thought it would offend the "immigrant" community, so wiht this. pic a topic not too controversial, or offensive, just keep it neutral. ANd you should be the one to choose a topic the interest you. so you dont get bored when talking about it. i dont relly answer ur query but yea.

Actually, it would be easier for you to pick a topic. The best way to do that is to write about a topic that you are personally interested in and write the first draft with all the passion and emotion you can muster. Then, go back and edit it to just include the thesis (what you are trying to prove), the history and the facts that support your stance.

When I was in school I wrote one on why it's important to vote and why not voting relinquishes the right to complain about our leaders.

You know better than anyone else what kind of topic brings out that much enthusiasm for you. Good luck to you.

I once wrote a persuasive paper about christmas trees, and the environmental impact of using a real tree each year, and how bad it was for the environment and house fires etc, to persuade people to get a fake tree.

Another persuasive paper (which was slightly more successful) was to argue that people shouldn't mow their lawns, or at least let a significant portion of their lawn "go back to nature". When I wrote that paper, i convinced myself, and nowe half my lawn has returned to partial meadow/forest for the last 5 years.

Basically any topic which seems the underdog in any political debate but you must remember to choose spin over fact.

Talking on the cell phone while driving ( it is less safe but we may need to communicate with home, work, for emergencies, etc.)
Releasing U.S. oil reserves to help lower gas prices ( is it smart to deplete our reserves for the short term? and give drivers some price relief...)
Regulation of internet gambling ( should the government get more involved? Lives are being ruined but it is a freely chosen activity)
Do nurses/doctors work too much overtime - to where their effectiveness is effective? ( they are needed, but do they get too tired to always make the best medical decisions?)

What is the state of Dr. King's Dream today? (How far have we come, and wehere do we yet need to go?)

Just did this in English class for summer school and they worked well...

Pick something entirely odd. Catching the teacher/proffessor offguard tends to make them grade you lighter then everyone else. I did a speach on why all people should own and care for fish. My arguements were why dogs and cats are worse pets. I got an A for something that silly.
