A blog is an online, onging conversation. It could be about Art, Literature, whatever, but the dialogue is Not real time. It is sort of a conversation on slow mo....
I might for instance post on a blog that my opinion was that W was a moron; I might post this at 3:00 AM (my time), it will then generate a response, at any given moment...across the globe.
Think if it as ............."wiretapping" on a very personal level.
All behind a virtual firewall called a "Nick" aka Nickname.
Honestly, blogs are a bit of a swamp.
But, they can be informative and amsuing.
One builds one's own play list, not unlike the whole Ipod thing....
When entering a known swamp, The Nob recommends big time insectiside, among other protections, both hard and soft.
Wink, wink, nod, nod
Tell me what you are interested in, and I can point you at some blogs.
This having been said; enter blogs and CHAT ROOMS..........Armed. Arm your feelings and arm your puter. You need to be an Armadillo in both.
I probably won't be here long as this nick so I will tell you now, If you have a DSL or Cable connection, get a Router, do Not rent it, buy a good one, I like Linksys, but there are several that are excellent, I also own my own modem, you can rent them, but the are junk. Next, get Anti Hack, and Anti Virus software.
Look to online tech sites that evaluate software regularly. PC World is excellent, as is Tech Republic.
USE SEARCH ENGINES.

Blogs are short for weblog - a personal or noncommercial web site that uses a dated log format (usually with the most recent addition at the top of the page) and contains links to other web sites along with commentary about those sites.
Sometimes people will confuse them with online journals - which are supposed to be about yourself whereas blogs are about other web activities! Personally I think there is a very fine line between the two!!
You can use tools such as Blogger which help you set up your own blog site. HOwever most of the big online companies like Yahoo and MSN have got their own tools and really they're quite straight forward to use.
The best advice I can give you is start with a simple base on which you can build later ideas and concepts once you get more confident in what you're doing.

A Blog is a weblog. It's just an online diary. The cool thing about them is that all of those points you've been trying to get out to the world, can now be publicized. Click on my name, then visit my 360 Page, for a sample of a blog.

some people want to put their diary on-line. A lot of those people thing they are way more interesting than they really are.
Use/purpose/intent - generally, it is just that the blog owner want to put his or her thoughts out there.
How to use them ( if it is someone else's blog);
You might start reading someone's blog regularly if you find it thoughtful, funny, or interesting.
If you mean how would you use a blog you created yourself - i think you would be using it as a dairy that people could comment on.

Blogs- Web logs. They are sort of like online diaries to which other users can read. Their intent was to bring people together, sort like myspace.com. Blogs have become so popular that the Webster dictionary added the word last year. For more info try wikipedia.com or ask.com

Blogs are for you to express your thoughts and feelings. It is to create an emotion in people. Happy, angry, sad, whatever. It is not a place to air out dirty laundry and share really personal information.

sort of like a public journal where you can let people you don't see very often but still care about (distant family or friends) sort of keep up with what's going on in your life. That sort of thing.
