When New, it's supposed to be 5 W 30. You want to keep the Car, Right? After all, it's a "Baby Impala". Lots of Space, and great Fuel Economy ! Get 4 Quarts of Castrol Syntec 5 W 30 Oil,1 Bottle of Slick 50 High Mileage Engine Treatment[not the Regular Slick 50] and a K & N Oil Filter. Fill the Filter up about 1/2 Way before You Spin it on. Pour the Remaining Oil into the Engine. Start the Engine, and let it get up to Operating Temperature, to where the Heater puts out Hot Air. Then , with the Engine Running, pour the Slick 50 Hi-Mile into the Engine. This will evenly distribute the Treatment. Then, either Drive the Car, or let it Idle for 30 Minutes. If You've got a New,or Rebuilt Engine, don't add the Treatment. That's only for Older, high Mileage Engines.,

DO NOT USE SLICK 50, why that dudes knock has gone away? the oil is really, really thick.... and he's doing more harm then good.... btw, slick 50 is a bad additive to use (contains ptfe (teflon) clogs small oiling spots)
Just stick with 10w-30 in the summer (shears a little less then 5w-30 under the heat) and 5w-30 in the winter.... the 5w-30 will pump faster in the cold than compared to the 10w-30.

Choose a lower viscosity for summer and a higher one for winter. Basically, if you change the oil and filter regularly, you can use any weight and EVT is not important. Teflon additives are good too.

Most likely 10w40. You won't damage the engine if you use either of those.
