Even the French themselves don't blame him for losing the final. So, I guess he is not to blame for the lost. In fact, in wasn't anyones fault. And by looking how the French crowd greeted him when French squad returned to their country, I think that Zidane is a National Hero. Not only him though, but all of the members of French Squad, including Trezeguet who missed the penalty.

in spite of the actual incontrovertible truth that the guy that neglected the pk for the french became very unlucky with it hitting the crossbar, it value them the international cup. with maximum individuals that is possibility-free to assume that zidane ought to've burried the pk. so if zidane did not head butt the italian participant, zidane would not were thrown out of the game and then he ought to bury the awesome pk for the french to tie it at 5. who knows what ought to ensue after that becuase both goalkeepers were no longer even getting on the point of a keep.

I think he contributed to why France lost the World Cup. Everybody thinks that he is some big hero, but he's not in my eyes. I think he acted like a big baby. He should've just sucked it up and kept playing. Italy would have won either way though!

it cost them not only the world cup but world respect. Had it not been for this incident he would have been ranked as one of the world's greatest. No matter what he alleges was said about his family, (if indeed it was said) was just a chance for someone to push His button and get ejected from the field. Thereby giving Italy and edge.
I am glad Italy won if for nothing more than that fiasco of officiating in the US VS Itally in the first round.

Zidane did not cost them the cup - it's a team game.
He did expose his tragic side. Like all great heroes a flaw makes them more human.
Italy had the better team ethos, where the sum of the parts proved to be greater.

Na, Italy would have won 5:4 anyways, the guy who missed would have been one of the 5.
I still don't get it why the French coach took out Henry.

He costs nothing... n he's still a hero. But in the future, he maybe well remembered by the headbutt incident than the 2 headers that gave France the trophy in 1998. Same as Maradona - his goal that will be well remembered is the 'hand of god' goal.........my opinion...
