Yes Neo-Nazis and Christians do it all the time.

You can also do it for good but too much pride is a bad thing.

Most importantly you teach by example. I find that if you show pride you teach pride, it really is easy to teach pride but you must also teach humility. It is very important to teach all of the ego emotions because everybody needs to be able to deal with all emotions.

That is a challenge alright. Obviously each person takes pride in different issues. The lesson here is to recognize what we are proud of and accepting other people are proud of as well. For starters, have an individual express what they are proud of. Them move them towards recognizing expressions of what other people are proud of. Good luck, this is much harder than what sounds.

example is not one of the best teachers. It is the only teacher.

if you are trying to insitill a sense of pride in children then you need to tell them what they should feel proud of by offering specific praise.

for example:
John picks up a piece of rubbish and places it in the bin.
you could say.
"John you're a good boy"
but this means very little in real terms.
Instead specific praise would be
"John it is good you care about how the place looks. It is good to pickup rubbish."

another example.
Amy throws a book in temper and then afterwards she picks up the book and places it in its proper place.
You could say.
"Amy you're a bad girl for throwing a tantrum and a good girl for picking up the book."
but this is confusing to Amy.
Instead you could say something more specific
"Amy I can see you felt very angry when you threw the book. Throwing books can hurt people and damage the book. I am glad to see you have picked the book up and put it where it belongs."

another example is:
You want to teach the children in a class to feel proud of their achievements.
Start by working out what it is the children want or need to achieve. then create a step by step plan of these achievements.
Celebrate every step they accomplish.

As babbalooey said...lead by example; be proud of who you are and what you do, and how you act towards others. By those actions, others will be proud as well...so stand up an show your pride!

By accomplishment and praise. Pride must come from challenges.

show them others like them that have become successful. pride is knowing that you are apart of something great.

you have to show them those like them, explain it, and show the world why they can be prideful. once you do that, your job is done.

it's never easy to be a teacher

You can't. You can motivate, you can't instill a personal psychological feeling of self-esteem in someone.

It should not be anyone's responsibility to 'teach' pride.

Absolutely, utterly and totally f#%$ing stupid question.
