The power company has conspired with the earth's rotation and in doing so has created more jobs for their workers, make more money and created a need for lights and lighting fixtures all over the world.

As the earth rotates on it's axis the sun shines on the area exposed to the sun causing daylight as it rotates further the area exposed to the sun changes and when that section that was exposed to the sun is no longer exposed we have the darkness of night. Depending on the position of the moon we can see the area where the moon is exposed to the sun. Sometimes even when it is daytime we can see the moon reflecting the sun's rays when it is in just the right position. Sometimes we cannot see the moon or only part of the moon.

Primarily it's because when the words "day" and "night" were invented, people made the word "day" mean "that time when it's light" and "night" mean "that time when it's dark" so the reason you're looking for is "that's how they were defined."

Now for the answer that's what you're ACTUALLY looking for:
The earth rotates around it's axis like a top. Since only part of it is facing the sun at any given time, for that part of the world it's day, for the other half it's night.

A day and night aren't precisely 24 hours, so every so often we have to "adjust" our time to make sure our times remain in sync with the rotation of the earth on it's axis.

Go to Alaska, or anywhere else on a high latitude. In the summer they'll have outrageously long days and likewise, long nights in the winter. It has to do with how the earth is tilted on an axis and how the sun shines on our little spinning planet.

2 a.m. BBQ's with all the homies when the sun is out. Super cool. Winters must be depressing as hell.

It's because 2 points. That's why. The earth revolves around the 2 points, therefore making the 2points light and the other side of the 2 points dark. And that is why the 2 points is dark and the 2 points is light. 2 points.
