Not quite sure what you are talking about. But, homework over a holiday is a way to continue to stimulate your brain so it continues to make connections over an extended period of time.

Also, much information is lost if it is not rehearsed over and over again. Holiday homework can help already existing information be rehearsed so that it gets incoded in your memory circuit.

Plus, part of growing with education is learning how to teach yourself. If you are presented with a series of questions that requires you to research yourself, then you will learn how to find answers a little easier. Its not a bad idea.

Check any cognitive psychology, SCHOLARLY (meaning not wilkipedia) journal for confirmation of this infirmation

You did not make yourself clear. What are you attempting to ask? It appears more homework would have been of help to you. Many parents and some educators believe that is an excellent time to give more work. I do not subscribe to that theory. I do believe that families can be given things to do with their children that will foster learning and not seem like drudgery. Learning should be fun and productive. Children should learn from working with their family how learning takes place in everything we do.

Giving students a lot of worksheets is not my idea of learning. Homework is supposed to be practice of what you learned in class to solidify the knowledge. If you are on holiday, what class was held??

Holiday homework should be based on extending the learning that took place and made so it can be done and still give the students time off or there just should not be any given.

I am a teacher and I wouldn't give holiday homework for that reason. We all need a break from the daily grind of things, even teachers and students. I would, however, recommend that my students either read the newspaper or watch the news while on vacation. Or, if away from home that they learn something that they can share with the class!

Due to NCLB, (No Child Left Behind), teachers must do everything possible to prepare their students for the big TESTS in the Spring. That means sending homework for every holiday and hopefully it will be motivating and interesting things to help you want to not forget anything. Reading at least an hour every day is absolutely essential for the student who wants to do his/her best in school. The National Government has worked very hard to let every state's government know the expectations it has of every child in school today. That's why the increase in requirements for high school graduation today. The superintendents of every school district in the USA have unbelievable jobs of making principals of every school in the USA go back and make EVERY teacher understand how important the TEST is, and that from the first day of school, the main goals are to prepare the kids to take the tests. Every state has a state department of education website for every teacher to go to do download all the PASS skills for the subject and grade they teach and it's up to him/her to prepare lessons plans to teach all those skills. If it's a PASS skill, it will be taught sometime prior to the TEST. The pressure is horrendous and sometimes teachers are even told if their schools' test results are not passing, he/she can be terminated. Most people don't know the pressure on teachers today and why they must send holiday work home if the students are to pass the TEST in the Spring. Go to the web site of your state department of education and look at all I've described above. It will enlighten you. Before I retired from teaching, I told the kids on the first day of school what we had to accomplish and why, and most of the kids were really cooperative.
