This is the age old question posed by the great Albert Einstein and subsequently stumped by this paradox, which is an indirect result of his general theory of relativity.

Dear David,

Such a question would never have stumped Albert. Time travel if it were possible, would involve moving masses (IE you) at the speed of light and beyond. It was Dr. A that showed that as you start to approach the speed of light, the amount of energy input per increment of speed goes up exponentially. For you to attain the speed of light would require infinite energy. ergo...you ain't going to do it this space-time continuum.

There are lots of paths we could explore here, but let me just say that the gist of your question would not have been entertained by my uncle Al.

One current theory that I've heard (but unfortunately don't have a source for) says that if we are able to travel back in time, it will be in a short backwards loop that would put you in some sort of "quantum isolation" (paraphrased) so that basically you could only observe past events but not interact with them in any way. Solves a lot of paradoxes, eh?

Modern time travel theories suggest that if you travel back in time and then forward, you goto an alteraive time to the one you left. You present in the pass as effected that time line, but the time line you left would still be going. So if you stopped your birth, the timeline you left (but not get back to) would have all the menories of you being alive, while the alteraive future from the timeline you had changed would not have any menories of you being born but you would still be alive.

If it is possible it would probably be through a time warp. According to Einstein, Time is not linear throughout space. It may be possible to travel back in time because of this. His theory conveyed the possibility of distortions in the fabric of time due to gravity and other possible force interfearances.

Time is absolute and once a moment has past it can not be re-lived. Your hypothesis proves that time travel is impossible. Not only did you never exist but any events that involved you never happened either did they??

Humans don't know how to change time. It's like a piece of toast driving. So even if we could travel in time (which is a problem in itself) we can't really do anything.

you would perish on the spot and the world would continue because you don't hold any significance at all. however, if that was to happen to me the world would crumble with out me :)
