I started smoking when I was fourteen years old and smoked until I was in my late forties.
I didn't quit soon enough. I now have Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease...which means I have emphysema, chronic bronchitis and asthma.
I've lost lung function and only have 58% lung function left. I spend lots of time sick; however, I do work full time for the insurance. With insurance, I can afford to pay for the expensive medications that I have to take just to survive...but I will continue to work long as I can. I love my job.
I have alot of trouble with shortness of breath, I can no longer sweep or mop or do anything that requires exercise. My youngest daughter does the heavy housework for me. My husband helps too, he is a God send.
and ...there are times when just getting ready for work tires me out.
You are smart not to smoke. I wish I'd have been that smart.
Those of you who continue smoking........you will be me in twenty or thirty years.
Please quit smoking.

No. I am not stupid. I mean if I want to do something with my life why ruin it and let it go down the drain by getting like lung cancer or emphzima? I am only 13 and have always been against smoking as long as I remember and try to convince anyone I know not too. It's a distgusting habit and its not "cool" to have to wheeze and have a tube down your throat at the age of 20. Some people will even label you by saying your a freak or something of the sort even though you might not be one. But people will be stereotypes and do that because smoking just makes people band wagon-jumpers. Now a days its all about I need to be popular and fit in with the crowd to be cool. So they give into peer-pressure. I'd rather be "uncool" and acually do something with my life. Then being "cool" and being a buzzed up bum on the street. All ciggerettes are is a cancer stick. So dont lick on a cancer stick! My parents are addicts and do drugs and stuff so I am most likely to be addicted to that crap. So one puff for me would be a lifetime of "hell." I live with my grandma because of it and I'm happy but it's not going to be easy to get money for a car, go to college, an apartment, and all the other stuff usually your parents with help you with. So if I am going to make it in this world, I dont want one little ciggerette be a big obstacle in my life. And for that guy up there that said its not as bad as adults put it out to be, he's WAY wrong. Apparently he hasnt opened his eyes. Every 7 seconds someone dies of smoking dont let it be you.

I started smoking when I was 13. I started dipping and chewing tobbacco when I was 12. I used to carry around a pack of smokes though to hide joints and tabs in. Friends who smoked would occasionally bum a few off me. My gf though hated dip and I switched to smoking when I was around her. Then I switched completely to smoking before I was 14. Figured I had a pack of smokes with me anyway. Might as well smoke some of them. The girls hated it when I dipped, wouldn't kiss me. So I quit, kissing is a whole lot more fun than dipping :)
Nope, not even a buzz.
Good, don't start. It's a bad habit. Nowhere near as bad as folks make it out to be. Still it's an addiction and no addiction is good. It's also not especially healthy for the body, but smokers tend to socialize much more than non-smokers so it is good in the mental health aspects. I've made quite a few very good friends taking smoke breaks. So go take a stick of gum out and hang out with the smokers. You get the benifits without the health risks.

I started at 18 and smoked heavily for about 3 years, it took about a year from the time I decided to quit till I could actually be smoke free. I am glad I quit , i would tell everyone to not start in the first place.

I never smoked cigarettes. I've always thought they were disgusting. Back in high school I used to smoke weed but I quit after a couple of years. I'm 23 now and haven't smoked anything since then and don't plan on it either. LOL @ your story. I can see how that would turn you against smoking!

You are smart to not smoke. I started at 15 and wish now that I never did. It's a drag most of the time.

I was 11 but, I didn't inhale..lol. By the time I was 13, I was hooked. I have stopped and started again a few times but, for the last 2 years, I have not...I pray it stays that way.
