I'm not that fond of rap, mostly because so much of what I hear is violent, sexual, and full of all kinds of foul language. There are *some* rap songs that aren't too bad, though. Still, I can only take so much of it for so long.

Rap is a type of music you have to be around and hear all the time to like it. I am not fond of it myself and don't see how in the world people can listen to something so harsh and obnocsious. If you notice when driving in the car and stopped at a light, someone will come up next to you and blast their music. Most of the time it's rap. No one ever blasts jazz, r&b, or classical, etc. The kind of rap you or referring to (yo yo yo dog [LOL!!]) is hard core rap. Even though most rap exerts much anger, not all rap is like that. Most of them tell a story that has happened to them, or will happen, etc. Then again some of it, they are arguing with their girl/boyfriend about a breakup or cheating. Some of the rappers out there are very talented. A lot of the rappers do what is known as freestyle. Freestyle is thinking up rhyming phrases at the top of your head without thinking about it previously or writing it down. Not having done it before can be rather hard. Try it. During the recording of the song, they have written the lyrics down before to know exactly what to sing.
There is some softer rap music like old school rap. This isn't old school, but it's kinda old now. Nelly and Kelly Rowlands's "Dilema", I don't know if you've heard it, but it's a softer rap. It's a sweet story about a girl who just moved in this neighborhood. She has a boyfriend already but falls in love with this guy(Nelly). Throuought the song they tell the story. Nelly, a famous rapper, both sings and raps in the song.
Not all rappers are totally talentless. Some of them such as Ja Rule, Eminem and R Kelly, do other things in the music business besides rap. For one, they all write their own music and sometimes produces it too. Ja Rule for example has written music for Ashanti and Jennifer Lopez, also helping to produce their records.
If you think about it, rap is just another branch of music. Some like rock while others like the blues. To each his own. You and I both feel rap is just an unsophisticated form of music. Don't say they are talentless though, they just don't have the kind of talent you approve of or the kind of talent to you likeness. In order to be signed to a record deal though, you have to have some kind of talent. Rapping is not always as easy as it sounds. Many people can't talk fast and keep up the the rhythm of the song. Easier said than done. I hope I have helped you understand rap better.

just cuz u dont like rap it doesnt mean u have to degrade it as a form of music. a lot of ppl like it so there must be some reason behind it. and if it was so easy, why arnt we all rappers makin a bunch of money. i do agree with u that some aspects of it are pretty stupid but there are some rappers out there who u can truly call artists with amazing lyrics and melodious songs. if you gave it a chance i think you might find some of it actually enjoyable.
try some songs that have what you would call actual music in it combined with rap. there are a lotta songs out there with a female vocalist singing alongside a rapper. right now im liking "call on me" by janet jackson and nelly.
and i can also say from my point of view that country music is pretty worthless. its a bunch of hicks singin about drivin the truck down to the gas station, finding a dog on the side of the street, and takin it back to the farm....and all in a stupid country voice. but of course that isnt right. the description doesnt do it justice and im sure its a great form of music that a lot of people enjoy. i personally dont, but i can still acknowledge it as music and i dont have to put it down.

Sometimes I agree but I do like some clean rap songs. I'm of two minds. I'm kind of "weird" because I like rock AND rap. Usually people like one or the other.
