Rampant nationalism + patriotism, conservative control, accusations of constant "treasonous" acts, wiretapping and covert surveillance... is America on its way to being facist?

America has already become amereeka, a corporate-owned affiliation of city-states that have to enforce federal laws locally. A man on TV said no democratic-type of society has ever lasted over 200 years.

Scott c - It's definitely becoming more conservative in some respects, but I'm not sure that you can say it's becoming more fascist based on your list of symptoms. If you think about it, every one of the symptoms you list (rampant nationalism, patriotism, conservative control, accusations of treason, wiretapping, and covert surveillance) were all common practice in both the old Soviet Union and present day Cuba, both staunchly communist countries. And we all know how the fascists and communists used to get along. Best, LSB

I don't think so. Is the possibility there? Yes, it's always there. However we also have welfare, does that make us communist? If I could choose, I would get rid of both extremes. No welfare, no wiretaps. No social security (it's not like we get much from it anyway), no covert surveillance. BTW, conservative control does not equal fascism.

Yes, just look at how certain people think and talk, they speak out against even criticising your government as we have always done for the past 2 centuries, I say take the fascists to China or Cuba where they belong, if they refuse to go, line em up and shoot em

I think this is a very good question. I think that if all of these things are left unchecked then somewhere down the line we may well be on our way. I certainly hope not, and I hope a new administration is able to fix many of these problems before it gets out of hand.

I think America is just becoming in some ways the way it was before the 1960's. just for the record I see this as a good thing.

i have realized it for a lengthy time period, ever considering i got here upon out you had to be 18 to purchase lottery tickets. I do see your element, and with the Patriot Act in position we commit to be careful who we placed into workplace. Yeah, it ought to easily be terrorists we are spying on and torturing now. yet before you understand it we are going to be utilising the Patriot Act to implement such stupid "crimes" as Marijuana use, Underage ingesting, and the mac-daddy of stupid guidelines, obscenity. My suggestion, vote Libertarian... ...oh wait, that is a wasted vote because maximum voters are sheep who do what television tells them to do. And no individual who isn't a Dem or Rep can arise with the money for to have television tell human beings to vote for them. So, vote for the candidate who will do no longer some thing, it truly is top no longer some thing. because in the journey that they do some thing, in spite of celebration, it truly is purely no longer particularly. A energetic Democrat will crimalize possession of foie gras, and an energetic Republican will crimalize possession of girlie magazines. and could they use the Patriot Act to implement it? They o.k. ought to.

According to NY Times columnist Bill Safire, Norman Mailer, and me, the word "fascist" is unique to the Italian regime of Mussolini. What you mean is, "Is the U.S. government becoming despotic and totalitarian?" Yes.

Yes, for instance, Tom Brokow is doing a special on the
Discovery channel, Sunday, about global warming.
It hasn't even aired & someone has bashed him for it.
Disturbing.
