Scott c - It's definitely becoming more conservative in some respects, but I'm not sure that you can say it's becoming more fascist based on your list of symptoms. If you think about it, every one of the symptoms you list (rampant nationalism, patriotism, conservative control, accusations of treason, wiretapping, and covert surveillance) were all common practice in both the old Soviet Union and present day Cuba, both staunchly communist countries. I don't think so. Is the possibility there? Yes, it's always there. However we also have welfare, does that make us communist? If I could choose, I would get rid of both extremes. No welfare, no wiretaps. No social security (it's not like we get much from it anyway), no covert surveillance. BTW, conservative control does not equal fascism.

I think this is a very good question. I think that if all of these things are left unchecked then somewhere down the line we may well be on our way. I certainly hope not, and I hope a new administration is able to fix many of these problems before it gets out of hand.
