As opposed to... licking them clean?

I don't have a dishwasher in my apartment.

OMG - I know, stone-age! :P

Even when I lived in a place that had a dishwasher, I usually didn't use it. It was such a waste. I don't have many dishes, and I never use them all unless I have guests. It's really quite simple : I use a dish, I wash it off. It sits on the dish rack for a few hours, then I put it back in the cupboard.

It makes sense enough if you've got a household of six and you eat multi-course meals every night, because that's a lot of dishes. A single person eating alone, however, will only dirty one or two dishes per meal, and to fill a dishwasher at that rate means that the first dishes have been sitting there dirty for a week. Disgusting!

I always hated washing dishes but now that I have an apartment with a dishwasher, I never use it. I wash only by hand and I don't mind it. I guess I just needed options.

Yep- I sure do. I never understood the point of washing the dishes before washing the dishes! Do them right the first time and there's no need for a second!

You betcha, baby! We've got a forest fire happening not too far from the town I live in and we are under strict water rationing. Using a dishwasher would bring a fine for over consumption of water. A lot of people are even hand wahing clothing and sponge bathing. (ewwww! right?) Our yards look like autumn because the water is being diverted to the fire and we get enough for essential services only! Hope you are enjoying your new dishwasher, honey!

Yes, always, had dishwasher removed to make more space in kitchen.
Think they are cleaner (don't have that funny dishwasher smell) when done by hand and I do it as a form of meditation.

oh yes! been doing it for 40 years..everyday..i dont rely on dish wash machines..i really like to use elbow grease and scrub those dishes real good, then rinse 'em with hot water. i use anti-bacterial soap. its old-fashioned i know, but its the way i like it.
