My ex-husband was, and I thought that was very strange for a mother to just turn her back on her offspring like that (except once every few years if she needed something) for years at a time, refusing phone calls, returning mail.... Just wondering if it is more common than I know. It's almost unheard of here in AL...except for imported families like my ex's.....

My family would never disown me, I don't think, but at times I think it might be best to stay away from them. It's just that the rest of them are so close, in order to get away from one or two, I'd have to stay away from everyone, and my daughter wouldn't want that. She loves her cousins...

I dated a black guy last year and I asked my dad the "hypothetical" question of what he would do if I were to marry a black guy. He said he would disown me. And it wasn't a figure of speech. He meant it. I love my dad, but it tears me up to think that his biggotry would tear a family apart like that.

The relationship didn't work out with that guy for other reasons, but I decided at that time that I would love whomever I chose to love, even if it meant one day that my dad wouldn't see me anymore. I'm not interested in making his hate part of my life.

Yes, my mother kicked her husband out of the house for trial separation and KICKED ME AT THE SAME TIME to go with him at age 18. The next her, my father then booted me out.

So I was forcibly emancipated with prejudice by both parents. My fatgher died 23 years later and I found out about it on the internet reading the "Social Security Death Index."

A rude shock -- but -- the best thing that ever happened to me.

Since 1997, I have been holding a young adult mentoring seminar. Some of my attendees have been even worse treated than I have been.

So this kind of shocking family alienation is out there, believe me.

Im positive you've different kin actual fascinated on your youngster's lives so it's going to be good adequate. Its a not basic determination your going to make yet its an effective ingredient as i have been given kinda dissatisfied even as i became youthful that my cousins were given each and each and every of the interest and that i did not. I haven't, but it would be better to be disowned by my wacko sister than have to deal with her. The only reason I don't is because it would hurt my parents. They have deluded themselves into thinking we are one happy family.
