Let's be careful not to genenralize.
Female Circumcision does not only take place in Muslim countries. It also does not take place in all muslim countries.

The beheadings and stonings are part of their highly outdated and antiquated "justice system". Americans kill their death row inmates differently, nonetheless, there is government sanctified killing in this country.

Even during Hussein's time there where practicing Christians living in Iraq, as they are in other Muslim Countries.

Although we don't agree with the way the women are being treated, these things were originally meant to be for their protection, even though it isn't always practiced for that reason. Besides in most muslim countries women do not have to conceal themelves anymore. If they do, it is because they wish to do so in those countries. How much do we truly respect a woman's equality in our Western capitalist countries? Ask any Sociologist and he will open your eyes. Many of the muslim rules and laws were instated for a good viable reason (e.g. no pork, as it used to go bad too fast in the hot countries without refrigeration). What power hungry individuals have made out of these rules over the years is another thing. We need to stop blaming a religion and the many people following it for the hatefilled actions of a minority.

Lets look back in history. What about all those witch trials conducted by the catholic church. Or how about the Jews wanting Jesus out of the way, because he claimed to be the king of the Jews. Let's recap... It wasn't all te catholics that killed innocent women and children as much as it wasn't all the jews that wanted Jesus dead. It was power hungry individuals that saw their position in danger and felt they had to do something about it. If we find it so easy of accusing Islam to be so untolerant, why do we continue to show off our own intolerance by continuing to post questions like yours or even worse?

This is just another typical, shallow view of Islam I guess. Why is everything blamed on the religion itself when the barbaric acts on your list are actually rooted in cultural practices? If the people of that particular country is doing it, they would have been done anyway, regardless of religion. I happen to live in a Muslim country and the things you mentioned do not apply to the people here.

I'm not exactly sure what you had in mind when you said "prohibit exposed female flesh" - are you referring to something like the burqa that Afghan women wear, where even the face is covered by a veil? Or are you referring to the fact that most Muslim women wear hijab and do not parade around in their bra and panties for all the world to see?

If you're referring to the former, again, it's a cultural thing. In most Muslim countries, women do not wear things like that. But if you're referring to the latter, it truly is a matter of personal preference. Some women love to wear tubes and short-shorts, while some choose to wear the hijab (or tudung,as it is known here). They are not being opressed by their religion, they WANT to wear it. Why do some people find that so hard to understand?

Besides, there was a time when exposing female flesh was considered indecent by all religions, not just Islam. Only now - when religious beliefs are often mocked and ridiculed when they are not understood - do people see it as something they have to fight against.

What they are trying is to retain their believers forcefully. The old thinking that strict disciplines are the sign of a good society is the spirit that guides them. Here, freedom is secondary and it is so in all Muslim countries. This is required for an uncivilized society. Through these practices they think that whole world will accept them as the most disciplined religion in the world today. If Muslim countries allow proper freedom - then only the world will know how many of them are truly Muslims.

They have strong religious beliefs, but it's more about the ideology then the religion. America has stronger religious involvement, but is less extreme. 44% of Americans go to weekly church services. 25% of Iranians go to weekly services.
