As a child, i was told that Wednesday was the day you were supposed to get married. "Wedness" was the same thing as "marriage". And i believed that for a long time.
Yes, i really *was* that gullible.
But i Woden believe anything like that *now*, i assure you.....

It's spelled Wednesday because English is a screwed up language.
It's I before E except after C, or when sounding like A as in neighbor and weigh.
So what about SCIENCE?
If the plural of goose is geese, shouldn't the plural of moose be meese?

I know what you are talking about. I was discussing that with my wife last week. It bothers me a lot that the spelling is way off the pronunciation.

The English language is truly one of the most complex languages out there. It is derrived(?) from different languages, therefore it does not maintain consistency. Many rules are broken (i.e. why pronounce phone,.. fone? why not phish instead of fish). Sadly I don't knows the answer to your question, but I bet it has to do something with the rules of the language it was derrived from.
