My dad bought my mother her piano when she was pregnant with me. She certainly played all the time. It is probably just nostalgic thinking but I am the only one out of the 5 children who plays the piano : )

I'm 36 weeks, and I've been playing the piano since I was 3 (I'm 30 now). There's no way that being pregnant is going to stop me. If I can't fit onto the bench, well, then I'll stand. The baby can hear it in the last trimester, and I reckon that anything the keeps me sane and calm has GOT to be good for the baby. Relax. If you could play the piano before you got pregnant, you can play it now.

If the woman could play the piano before getting pregnant, then she should certainly be able to continue playing while pregnant. As for the baby feeling and hearing the music, many couples play classical music for their babies while in the womb in the hopes of the child being smarter. So I would imagine that piano music would work just as well or better, since the source of the music would be closer to the fetus than just playing the music on a stereo.

Your baby's ears start developing when you're around 5 months pregnant..I'm pretty positive playing a piano when you're pregnant couldn't harm the baby, the baby might be able to feel the music..It's just like buying a thing to put on your stomach that plays classical music, you can hear the music when it's on your stomach, so it must be pretty loud, so i'm sure piano won't hurt your baby.

If you sit on one of those wooden benches, i would recommend getting a cushion to put on it, just to make sure the edge of the bench does not cut off circulation to the rest of your legs and body. This might sound odd, but I have had that be an issue because of how long you sit there. My doc told me to be careful abut it when i told her how my legs fell asleep when I sew, she actually used playing the piano as an example. Since in both cases you are sitting for long periods of time sorta leaning forward a little, and since your thighs tend to get a bit larger while expecting. After I did the cushion thing, and also a tiny footstool for when my foot wasn't on the pedal, my legs falling asleep was a thing of the past! As for the music, it can't harm baby, and the movement may rock her to sleep!

I have always heard that the baby being carried can hear outside the womb as early as 4mos. along. I sometimes make baby classical CD's for my friends to listen to when pregnant. I heard that classical music is supposed to make a baby learn faster.
