No it is not possible to tell as of yet, but I would suggest that you take with caution everything the doctor tells you about the tests that are run on your baby. I had a bunch of test done when I was pregnant with my daughter and the doctor told me that "my daughter was going to be born retarted and not live past 6 months old". My daughter is 6 years old now is not anywhere close to retarted (for lack of a better word).

I do not think so. At 12 weeks you can only see a little blob, with a heartbeat. At about 20 weeks I think is when you can find out because that is usually when your 1st ultrasound is and they take measurements because the baby is now looking more human.
Do youhave a reason to think something is wrong, or are you just paranoid? I was paranoid about something being wrong because I'm an xray tech and worked for about 3 weeks without knowing I was pregnant. My baby is fine. And more than likely your baby is, too.
There are tests that can be done later in pregnancy to determine if anything is wrong, but just know that the triple screen has a high rate of false positives. I did not have it done. Would it really matter? It wouldn't to me. All I would do is stress over it for the rest of my pregnancy and that wouldn't do mommy or baby any good. Just relax and keep telling yourself everything will be okay.
Good luck to you!

yes it is possible you can go for an amnio. Just ask your ob/gyn if you are concerned about this. Ofcourse that only means if you would abort the pregnancy cause some parents don't want a child with disabilities. If you don't care what the potential problems will be upon birth and as the baby gets older then I wouldn't suggest an amnio.

When my son was born he was in the NIcu for 14 days. He is fine now but this I will never forget. there was a baby in the incubator next to him with heart problems and down syndrome. I stupidly asked the mom...didn't you get an amnio? she said very nicely and sincere to me. No, because it wouldn't have matter anyway how he turned out healthy or not he is still my baby. and then she said we wouldn't care as long as he was born..

After that I felt sooo terrible that I asked such a horrible question because she was right....and for her...it wouldn't have mattered...but I guess I asked that question cause it would have mattered to me.

so, what I am telling you is that you have to think about what you would truly want for your child and your life....and if it would really matter if there are potential disabilities.

Yes it is, that's one of the reasons they do so many blood test on the mom. Some things are detected at an early stage, but unfortunately not all things can be noticed until later in the pregnancy or until after birth. In our case it was after the birth of both my children that we found they had clefts ( supposed to be able to find that out as Early as your first sonogram). I am a huge fan of any and all test that can be preformed before birth.

You could do an amniocentesis, but usually these kind of tests are done about starting the 16th week and up.
