as far as people go, most republicans I meet are very calm self controled people, while on the other hand democrats tend to seem very unstable, angry and mean spirited...

from wwhat I remember conservatives did not act this way when the republicans were out of power...

is it because they lost two times in a row? or is it because unstable people are drawn to the ideals of the democratic party?

this is not a bash on democrats... this is an observation for discussion... I know a couple of democrats I can have a civil argument with. a couple... ok 1...

Because they:

1) worship cable news and hollywood propaganda.
2) smoke lots of pot.
3) jerk off to child pornography and think it's freedom of speech.
4) tear down anyone who isn't atheist.
5) kill thier unborn children and think it's morally acceptable.
5) support failed globalist and communist policies.
6) bash the president with such astute arguments as "Bush is DUM" and "Bush is HITLOR", without realizing how ignorant they are.
7) Say ridiculous things like "when Clinton lied, nobody died" and that Clinton respected the United Nations, when Clinton lied and people died in his airstrikes against Christians and Jews who were defending themselves from jihaidst Muslims in Kosovo, did not get UN approval, and did not get a coaliton together for the purpose of war. Hello Capt. Wags, you fool who doesn't know history and claims democrats don't invade sovereign countries. What a jackass.

Anyone who is vehemently anti-American but does not leave this country is a hypocrite. Why are people literally dying trying to get into this nation, when they are shot trying to leave other nations?

You hate America? That's fine. Go to France, where they get along really well with their "disenfranchised youths" who all happen to be Muslim invaders setting fire to people's private property in a foreign country.

And for the record, I'm not a Republican. I think Bush is a terrible leader, except for his stance on terrorism.

I am not sure why the Democrats you meet seem unstable. I know a few that get pretty passionate, but for the most part no more than most.

I bump into unstable Republicans far more than unstable Democrats. I've gotten in and observed political discussions with Republicans. Who was the first and only person to toss out at an insult? The Republican. Who was the one to get angry when actually presented with facts? The Republican.

I live in a very red state, fire engine red, and people here HATED Clinton. I was bitter over the first election, but I'm over it. And I never got in anybody's face about it. Even recently, a Republican tried to get into my face about Clinton and Hillary.

I'm of the live and let live mentality. I like debate. I like clear, precise and FACTUAL arguments (preferably from unbiased sources). There are people like that in both parties.

If your intent is to truly pass along an observation for discussion then why do you stereotype one half of the people in this nation?

Have you actually meet and had discussions with a large enough segment of our population, or even a few thousand or even a few hundred, to make a fair, impartial profile?

I hardly doubt it.

A more fair question would been worded something like "Why do some Democrats ..." or perhaps "Why do many of the Democrats I've actually met always ... "

Try asking your question without the obvious chip on your shoulder and see how the responces change.

Here, you decide in my case. I was a democrat all my life and I enjoyed that I was open minded, I enjoyed that I had a freer mind, just in general. I felt democratics were younger in their views, not stuck in some unchangable rut. Democratics, willing to explore and Rep to be safe. This is me-mostly apolitical. After Clinton, I said to myself its time to get real. Look what my free spirit got us into (taking partial blame for his vote into office). And I got into this sense I didnt want things to be changing all the time and I wanted some dependability, predictability, respectability in office and then circumstances took place and Bush was right-on with what I would have him do. As a Rep, yeah I do feel a little bit like theres a corncob in my chair. I do even feel older. But I feel safe. Am I sorry I'm not a 'Dem? I'm sorry those hippie-like days are gone. I miss the creativity and enthusiasm stifled by the stale air of Republicans. Ok, does that sound unstable?

As I am apolitical, I dont know how I wandered into politics or wherever I am. I noticed some headings elsewhere are exclusive to only those qualified. I campaigned for Bush a teensy eensy little bit. I guess I qualify a teensy bit here.

I would be willing to be you live in a majority conservative area... so you're observations are skewed on the whole... I mean, if all Democrats were unstable, they wouldn't even have a party anymore... when in reality, they almost won the last presidential election with an admittedly weak candidate... 48 percent to 51 percent...

krisidious: the breach of a cease fire agreement? that's why we're in Iraq? and you're calling us unstable?

Well, if that's why we're in Iraq... you probably want to inform the ENTIRE ELECTED REPUBLICAN PARTY, because I've never in my life heard one of them say that... so it appears that they don't know that's why we're there... I swear Bush said it was to find WMD and to liberate Iraq? oh well, I guess you know his reasons better than he does?

A conservative's beliefs are usually based on tradition or religion, which by nature has been more stable and constant. (That doesn't mean they are right or wrong, just that they are more stable.)

A progressive's beliefs challenge the status quo and are always changing. They are not based on some doctrine they can fall back on. So their beliefs progress and change and they are therefore less stable. Again, this does not make it right or wrong.

So by the very nature of these two viewpoints, someone who likes stability is naturally going to gravitate toward the conservative viewpoint, and someone who likes to challenge tradition or inspire change (which causes instability) will more likely be liberal.

I have to emphasize that one drawn toward instability is not bad, per se. For example, during slavery, or the civil rights era, instability was a great thing, because the status quo was unacceptable and it repressed black people. It took courage to challenge the status quo, but that eventually lead to the formation of a more just society.

I commend you for not bashing democrats, and for making attempts to be civil.

You must not have that great of a memory then. Everything was about Clinton back then.. The Rep's were extremely outraged about the Lewinsky thing, hell a lot of em still are..
I think losing two times in a row get's them pretty fired up, I know I was. I couldn't believe my country would be stupid enough to vote him back in(in my eyes). I think dem's are pretty upset at the constant bashing they recieve. Being a liberal veteran of Iraq, I'm really really tired about hearing that I don't support the troops/myself because I don't support the pres. Liberals get called everything in the book.. Rep's use a lot of dirty mudslinging tactics, I think that is the main cause..

Askthepizzaguy is a good example
See the dumb **** *** people we have to deal with!!

I would say on a majority you seem to be correct by the way things are portrayed on mainstream media, but you must realize it also differs from person to person.

I'd say either the media puts more nutty Dems on than they do realistic ones, or there are just more nutty Dems than there are realistic ones.

I for some reason or another (it has always been this way even before I got into politics), it just seemed like Liberals lack common sense. They have good intentions, but just no sense.

I agree with the guy down below this...

I've known a couple Republicans that actually had facts, and could actually debate, but most of them would just mumble " Ah dunno" and then get real angry when I asked them why they could'nt explain it. It seems that both of us have the same problem on other sides of the spectrum. Oh and by the way, for the Iraqi situation all boiling down to a broken ceasefire, the administration sure does come up with a whole lot of different reasons besides that particular one.

I'm fairly liberal, and have only a couple of friends I consider "conservative". Of all my friends, can you guess which is the one who has admitted to hitting his wife? Can you guess which one has admitted to not paying federal income taxes the last 3 years? Which is the one getting divorced after only 18 months of marriage? Which one is driving without car insurance? Hmmmm....Did you guess one of my 30 or so liberal friends? Or, did you guess, correctly, that it was one of my 2 conservative friends? Funny, isn't it, how out of 30 friends, I only have 1 I consider a total screw up, and he's the conservative of the bunch. Incidentally, whenever I pointed out to him how lousy things were going under Bush, he'd always tell me to "stop being so angry". I think you Republicans have just been conditioned to respond to any valid criticism with a "stop being so angry" retort.

And if you don't remember Republicans being angry when Clinton was in office, I guess you were either very young, or just very unobservant.

As of late, it is because they base most of their politics on the politics of emotion.... you can't deny emotion as it really is all subjective.

Also, remember, they're trying to be all things to all people, but the problem is, in doing that, they become mostly insignificant and directionless.

Democrats haven't really had a solid ideology they could profess for a very long time. And now, they're starting to embrace the ideas of some of the more loony ideologues in their ranks, which is isolating them from the old base.

It's going to get worse before it gets better.
