The are going to get better, but their out of division schedule is brutal this year. They play at KC, at Denver, and at home against Philly (just to name a few) on top of playing san diego and seattle, and the Cardinals wont bail them out this year either. Its gonna be another rough one even though they are gonna continue to improve.
I'd also like to point out that the Vernon Davis pick was not a good pick at that position.

Alex Smith needs to step up his game and learn how to take a hit. I played with him in high school. What the 49ers need to do is make major adjustments on the offensive line as well as defensive line and get some new safteys in the back field.

They appear to have even gotten worse by losing theyre best defensive player Julian Peterson to their division rivals. I do like their draft. Pope should be a monster tight end in this league for years to come. But Alex Smith is simply no good and the Frank Gore. Kevan Barlow thing doesnt seem to be working either. Not to mention they lost theyre only decent receiver, Brandon Lloyd to a trade with Washington. They have a lot of work to do in the future to make themselves contenders again.

It doesn't look great, but they are better than they have been...Hopefully Alex Smith will get his act together, and if Frank Gore plays well, I think they have a chance.

I think that they will be improved from last few years, but not sure by how much. I am looking forward to watching my team play.
