Sounds like a very bad idea to me, if you want living fish at the end of the experiment!

Salt water fish and fresh water fish process things differently so I wouldn't think your saltwater bottom feeders would survive very long without the salt content in the water.

Salt water fish will die if you put fresh water in the tank. However if you mean that you want to do a water change where you siphon out some of the old water and replace it with new salt water your fish should be ok.

Fresh water fish need fresh water, salt water fish thrive in salt water, and then there are fish that thrive in brackish water.Adaptation to another environment is highly unlikely. Remove the sucker fish (freshwater catfish I assume). Have a great day.

If it had been a salt tank, I would not do that... More then likely there is SOME amount of salt residue left, even if it's just absorbed in the sealer that glues the glass together. I know some fish can't take even a tiny amount, so I wouldn't risk it. Might ask a knowledgeable fish shop though and see what they say.

Do a 10% daily change, adding fresh dechlorinated water. Keep doing this for about three weeks or so. You can only do this if this was a brackish tank. If it was a marine tank, forget about it. Marine fish canNOT live in freshwater.
