Is there a Radio Shack Store Nearby ? They still sell Record Players. Make sure that You get one with a Magnetic Phono Cartridge. Also, get a Record Cleaning Brush, Preferably a Discwasher. And, a Stylus [Needle Cleaning] Brush. most record players have 2 speeds: 45 and 33 1/3. are you buying new or used? if used, here are somethings to look for in some of the more top of the line:
anti-skate- keeps needle from sliding across record and scratching
counter weight- adjusts needle tracking weight, too heavy will damage record.
speed fine adjust- self explanitory
diamond needle- lasts longer than saphire
45 adapter. technical stuff like wow and flutter can be looked up.
try to get a brand name like :garrard, bang-olufsen,hitachi,acustic research, etc.
e-bay gots plenty
