I want to download my analog movies from my videocamera, 8mm, to the computer thru my capture device. However, when I plug it into my computer it says my USB connections are too slow, I need a high speed one. Cant it still work but only slower, I dont care if it takes all night to download the stupid video content! Please explain, thanks you in advance.

Your video camera will try to download a huge amount of data from it to your PC. Since the tape in the camera can't really slow down or stop at will, your computer has to be able to keep up with the data-stream. Obviously, the original USB is not fast enough.

You can buy a 2 port USB2 adater (PCI based) for about 20 dollars at almost any computer stores. It will be a cheap way to take care of problem.

The problem with this is that you're trying to connect a high-speed USB 2.0 device (your video camera) to a slower, standard USB 1.1 port.

USB 1.1 has a max throughput of 12Mbps/sec while USB 2.0 can achieve 480Mbps/sec. The camera wants to download the video at a higher speed than the computer's USB host can go, this is why you get the error. If the situation was reversed (fast port, slow camera) then you'd have no issue.

In your case, you'll need to add a USB 2.0 host controller to your PC. These boards are fairly cheap (less than $30, off-brand) and widely available.

you need usb 2.0 very easy to add http://www.buy.com/prod/StarTech_6_Port_USB_2_0_PCI_Card_Adapter/q/loc/101/10348605.html I put it in both computers 1 to get usb 2.0 and the other to increase the number of usb ports works great

it should be able to work unless

1. your USB cable is 1.1 or 1.0, not 2.0 highspeed (1.1 or 1.0 takes a long time and most comps rarely use them)

2. your USB cable is damaged, try to buy another one

yes, it should still work even though it's slower. That's odd that it does that...
