I was wanting a tattoo of my sons name across my arm verticly his name is Gabriel

It depends greatly on size, colour, style and how reputable the shop you want to get the tattoo in is. It can range anywhere from $20 for a hole-in-the-wall diseased tattoo to $200+ for intricate script and colouring.

I think it depends on how difficult the tattoo will be, how many colors you use, and how long it will take the artist to complete. Mine cost about $75. Mine is a simple daisy, 4 colors, took about an hour.

It depends on where you go and the size of it. Mine was $170. I have a picture of it on my Yahoo 360 page.

My daughters sun/moon, 3.5 inches diameter in four colours cost her $150 US five years ago.

Look around and shop around, but make sure you go to someone who is known for their good work.
