I live in Belvidere IL. I use sprint. I have a Belvidere city tax on my bill. Called sprint and they say no way can they do that.
Went to the village hall and they told me they tax cell phone bills 5% for street repairs. They say it has been for years now so you dont have to get a city sticker. Is this legal? Sure seems like a real cash cow for them.
Any ideas on how to fight city hall?

The only way I can think they could tax it if the towers are in the city it would be a property tax. Belvidere, my friends lived in Candlewick for a year, no sidewalks,no street lights, a lake that people say not safe to swim in and it is gated out in the middle of corn fields.

A city can tax anything it wants. You can get enough people together to vote out the taxers; you can not pay the tax and suffer the consequences; or you can move away. Lastly, you can pay the tax. Take you choice.

Listen sweetie, If it's not called a tax, it will be called a fee. There's no way around it. Don't you know...we're even taxed on a tax. It's known as Social Security. It's a tax you pay until you retire. Then when you get it, you have to pay taxes on it?!
