i went for an ultrasound at an ultrasound clinic to see what my baby was... while i was there the lady asked me if i felt the baby... so i said no not really.... then she said well thats normal because your placenta is in the front... its nothing bad but it gives you extra cusion for the baby to kick... you will feel it more later... my doctor never told me that.... is that weird.... dont you think he should have been able to tell??? has it ever happened to anyone else?? i just think its odd..... what do you think?

Congratulations on your upcoming child. I hope everything goes well.

One of the hallmarks of a good mother is that she is concerned right from the start about her baby's health. You are no exception. Of course, when you are hit with any sort of news like this, it's hard to get it in the right perspective without a lot of extra knowledge. Even then, it's a little tough if it pertains so closely to you.

The doctor prescribed the ultrasound in order to check on many things, including where the placenta is. As smart as he is, he doesn't have x ray vision, which is probably a good thing. As the technician pointed out, this isn't a big problem. The doctor may not have mentioned it because he didn't know about it yet.

If the doctor did tell you all the ins and outs of pregancy, he wouldn't have the time to treat anyone else, and you'd be a nervous wreck. Trust me on this one. Most pregnancies go very well, but you'd never know it from the amount of worrying that goes on.

In this case, the detail is just a detail. Interesting, but not a problem. The doctor will probably explain that it simply meant that the fetus attached at that location, and that its actually fairly common. Of course, if there is a C section, he needs to know where the placenta is in order to plan for it. Again, nothing big, but he has to know.

Once again congratulations. It sounds like things are going well. Good luck and take care.

On the pregnancy forums I'm on, when a woman doesn't feel the baby all that much we automatically suspect the placenta may be in front. It's really not that uncommon, but it's not something a lot of people think about, much less talk about. And it's something that you can't tell for sure without having an ultrasound.

I know what it is like to have the placeta up in front. I had that with my daughter. I was much further along then you were when they discovered that it was in fact up in front. It is extra cushion, so you might not be able to feel the full force of a kick. Also, if there is a period of time that you can not feel the baby move don't get yourself to worked up. Of course contact your doctor but it can cause that too. I had a day where I didn't feel my little one move for about 6 hours, I called my doctor and waited a little while longer and I started to feel her move.

No the dr cannot tell unless there is an ultrasound.. it's not odd the placenta moves in the uterus next time it will be in a different place..

Wow never heard of that, but i am 21 wks and i feel the baby alot. Before i could only feel it inside, but now i can put my palm over it and feel it. But i nver thought that your placenta could be in different locations. But good luck, hope you find out what your having soon!!! Best wishes!

Yeah it is perfectly normal. My placenta was very high, and in my sisters case it was in the back. Nothing to worry over, your baby will be just fine.

Better in the front than too close to the cervix.

Did you find out boy or girl? :)
