Yes it is rather a very determined defeatist song. I always changed the words in that song from, I will go down with the ship, to I will go down with fishes. Somehow I kinda liked that better.

Yes, it is a sad song. Even though she knows she has messed up and can't have the guy she is determined to continue loving him and "go down with the ship."

No, not really! It's a song about surviving the hardships of love. Even though, she's had some bouts in the love arena, no matter how bad they were...she is not giving up on finding love!
