almost without leaning on the crib for support. He has also discovered how to sit to get down instead of just falling over. Does this mean that he'll be walking on his own very soon?

Yes it does! He's getting the balance, it won't be long before he'll be walking. My son walked at 8 months. Now my daughter is 8 months and she will let go and stand for 10 seconds or so. She also drops down instead of falling. I'm expecting her to take off walking any day now.

P.S. Enjoy the time you have BEFORE he walks! LOL

Definitely. May even skip crawling!
With our first son, it seemed that he was on the verge of walking, and then it took another 3-5 weeks. So don't be disappointed if it still takes soem time. 8-12 months is typical.

Make sure your crib mattress is on the lowest setting, and also make sure the railings are pulled up, and there are no shelves, or other things where your little character may somehow get stuck, climb out, or otherwise put himself in danger.

Once these guys walk, it's a new world - have fun!

Make sure you remove the bumper from the crib. Now that he's standing he can use that as a boost to go over the side. It doesn't necessarily mean he's gonna walk anytime soon, but encourage him when he's out of his crib to cruise around the furniture or pull up on safe things around the house with your supervision.

My 4 month old son just started to pull himself to standing, but cannot yet sit without support. Babies do steps all out of the norm sometimes, but if he is standing with that much control & not crawling yet, he may skip that stage completely. My 18 month old cousin started standing when she was 6 months & started walking at 9 without ever crawling.

Not necessarily. Some babies are very anxious to stand so that they can reach higher, but once they can crawl across the room, then stand once they get there, they don't care about walking much anymore...

My daughter, for instance, sat, crawled, and stood up early...and didn't take her first step until she was 17 1/2 months old. She was more interested in working on talking.

I started walking when I was around 10 1/2 months. Babies learn balance and strengthen their leg muscles by pulling themselves up like that. I think he is totally on track developmentally, he's not ahead or behind. He'll probably be walking within the next few months.

put the mattress as low as it will go in the crib... he is growing up... yes soon he will be walking ... you can probably stand him up and let go of his hands and see how his balance is on the floor, he may even take a first step for you... try it and see what happens... sometimes if the baby is not ready, when you let go of their hands they just sit down... fun days ahead for you...

Yes! My son pulled up at 8 months and began walking (taking his first steps) within the next week.

He learned to crawl shortly after he began to walk....

..he may start crawling though..if he isnt already...

its a start to learning to stand up..then he'll eventually learn to walk..

also watch him in his crib..my baby went OVER the crib rail 2 days after learning to stand in her crib..

i recommend lowering the mattress fully.

Pulling up and balancing are the first signs that he is getting ready to walk. He is testing his limits to see what he is capable of.
