I would say that it doesn't detract from their accomplishments, but it does detract from their character.
The act of infidedility says a lot about a man's character. It speaks to his ability to keep a commitment and to be honest and truthful to those he cares about.
I always felt that Hilary should have slapped Bill in public, because she was the only person who really had a right to be hurt and angry by her husband's affairs.
Unfortunately so many great leaders male and female have had affairs. So many so that you begin to wonder if its a requirement....

I don't appreciate the way you phrased your question.
Many, if not most, presidents have had affairs, including this one! Even now there are rumors about him and Condi
Over 50% of the population who are married have them! Sure narrows the field!
I think Clinton will go down in history as a good president because he left this country better off than he found it!
Though he was pretty effective, even with a Republican Senate his second term, all the controversy surrounding affairs had to effect him!
The only presidents I can remember that never had an affair was Ronald Reagan, who I won't vouch for as in 2002 we found out he was giving actors names to the FBI as being Communist, who was a lousy actor in and out of the White House, and Jimmy Carter.

For me if the person is a truly great leader, no it won't matter. But if he/she is a mediocre leader, then I would question his/her abilities to lead because maybe the personal affairs are affecting the ability to effectively lead.
If a leader effectively ends world poverty and hunger, his/her personal affairs may not matter.

having an affair does not make one less of a teacher, however a leader is one who commands respect from others without the use of authority. if the populace feels that having an affair is disrespectful then that person is a bad leader.

It makes that person appear to be a hypocrite. MLK was a preacher and he broke one of the 10 commandments by commiting adultery. Famous people have more temptations than ordinary people but they have a moral obligation to resist because so many people look up to them.

Yes, if a man can't be honest to his family then how the hell can he be honest, and forthcoming to his country? He can't. Bill Clinton proved that! Therefore, if he has affairs, he's NOT an incredible leader. He can't be trusted.

If what they do has nothing to do with their trysts, then I don't care. When Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky got caught, I didn't care what they did. Clinton's job wasn't to preach about God and sin, his job was to lead the country. But if a religious leader teaches us not to fornicate or commit adultery, then if they do the same, it's worse.

I believe it does because our leaders are held to a higher standard then us little people. Many times these leaders are entrusted with the lives of others. You have to question their judgment on all things when they go screwing around.

Ask Bill Clinton, his presidency is mostly remembered for a little stain on a blue dress.
