It is illegal, only if you download illegal stuff.
I have downloaded patches and trial software legally.

Using Limewire doesn't leave your computer open to any more risks or viruses than surfing the internet or downloading from websites. It all matters what you download. No one can *put* things on your computer while using Limewire. You have to choose to download it. Is it smart to virus scan what you download? Certainly. But that's no different than downloads from any site anywhere on the 'net. People who don't understand how Limewire and like P2P programs work get scared. "Oh my goodness, I'll get viruses and adware on my computer!" Not so.
And Limewire is not illegal. In fact I've never heard of an illegal program. Certainly not one open to the public.

just have good anti-virus software, and the program isnt illegal just the files that are being shared are, but in reality its not becuz if u asked the person who uploaded it to email it to u.

yes, since it's peer to peer, there is a significant possibility that you might get a virus.
peer to peer allows someone to share files even from unauthorized site or server.
