It's not that we're necessarily angry over what's happened in the past (even though most still are), it's that even though slavery has ended, the racism hasn't. I myself become angry with white people when I see my mother being turned down for jobs, then a white person who isn't even as qualified gets it, or they make some racist/ignorant comment (and trust me they still do). We as African Americans recognize the fact that racism still does exist (Russians hate us, White America hates us, Arabs hate us), the list goes on. Also, referring to the slavery thing, if your great great grandmother or grandfather were slaves, and your grandparents/parents constantly told you stories about how they were beaten and raped and killed, then you read and watch the media constantly depicting young African American men in prison, and how they've YET AGAIN managed to threaten society, or drive down the street and see a white policeman pulling over a black man, while there are white boys speeding down the road, you'd be a little resentful too wouldn't you.
In other words, I think your question would more accurately read : Why are blacks in today's world angry at present day whites for the racism that not only belittled and seperated them 200 years ago, but that continues to do so today?

(Just so you'll know I'm not biased - I'm white - Irish/German.)
Really? You think everything that's happened to black people was over 200 years ago? Black people were publicly lynched all through the early 1900's and no white man was ever convicted for it. Black churches were burned to the ground. Homes and businesses of activist blacks and the whites who tried to help them register to vote were blown up. In the 1960's, there were still white-only water fountains and restaurants. Cops sicced attack dogs on people marching peacefully for their rights. Malcom X and Martin Luther King, Jr. were assassinated. In 1963 civil rights leader Medgar Evers was murdered in his own driveway - it took 30 years to convict his white killer.
Have we had a black president? Or a Hispanic or an Asian or a Native American or a woman? Most top corporate positions are still held by white men. The justice system today still condemns far more black men to death for the same types of crimes committed by white men. Less than 10 years ago, there was still a trophy proudly standing in a Fire Department trophy case in a NY suburb that was boldly engraved with "Ku Klux Klan" and the names of the Klan members who had donated it.
People are a long way from being treated equally. Real estate agents still steer people toward housing in communities where they'd "be more comfortable with their own" - even though it's been against the law for decades. A minority housebuyer can still find offensive racial and ethnic epithets painted on their new garage door if they dare to move into the wrong neighborhood. You still think they have nothing to protest?
Read "Lies My Teacher Told Me" by James W. Loewen - it's a great expose into most of the history of American atrocities that we were never taught in school. I'm still an American patriot and believe our country is the best in the world, but I don't have blinders on to the injustices around me!

B/c racism is very much still alive. Not all white people are prejudice but some still are. I don't know that it is anger that they are projecting. Maybe it's extreme caution. It's hard to trust something or someone that you know has had a history of hurting and taking over other people. Black people are not the only ones. There are the Native American, Orientals, Jewish and the list goes on and on. In white people's history, they are always trying to take over something that didn't belong to them in the first place and they do it by any means necessary. I know this seems harsh, but just take a look at history.

I'm going to answer this and i don't give a damn who i offend or piss off. if you read beyond what the public school system teaches about American history, you'd know the enslavement of Africans in this county was longer than 200 yrs,try almost 400.
i don't know of too many blacks who think of whites long enough to blame them for anything, but just b/c it's a new day and politically correct to do so doesn't mean that i will automatically forget what my ancestors endured. after all if not for their blood, sweat, and tears i couldn't have come this far. understand i don't hate anyone. hate is too heavy of a burden to bear, but i will not sit back and not speak on behalf of the African Americans like my great-grandparents who blew their backs out to build this country into what it is today.

Not just 200 years ago... segregation was a very prominent thing in the 40's and 50's...that would only make it 50 years ago. It's very difficult to get over something that was done to you for so long. I do wish that people (all kinds) could live together and not think about color, sex, or gender in negative ways. I do understand where the anger comes in though..it's called suppresion.

it amazes me how whites have such short term memories
like everything was just great in the sixties ..yes boss we sho iz grateful for dem dogs and water hose's
read willie lynch his ideology is the reason you dont understand oppression ...so many are brain washed by the history books that the slave owners wrote and we still use in junior high schools today "cuz George Washington was a great man when he wasn't fighting the British for a land that didn't belong to him he was cracking the whip on slaves back
it would be cool if they would put nat turner on the dollar bill
see how white people would react to that....lol

Because, even though we are not living back in 200 years ago, some white people still have that frame of mind that we are. :-)
