... aren't you glad they didn't kill the natives as Englishmen did, and because of that, now we can enjoy J-Lo's humongous derriére, Eva Longoria's cute face and Salma Hayek's boobies?

Dear Promoton:
I'm sorry, but you are wrong. Natives were not used by the Spanishmen for slavery, not because they didn't want them to, but because they were untamed and not willing to do it, they rather died.
The poor ones that were used with that goal were the African men and women.
Besides, where in the world did you get that hundreds of million died because of the sugar cane?? Are you nuts?? First of all there was not much population then, so not close to that number, and secondly, they were black people that the Portuguese brought from Africa to Brazil.

Spanish were extremely cruel to the Native American Indians-raped, killed, and enslaved thousands. Read up on your history! Facing East from Indian Country by Daniel Richter and The Red, White, and Black: the Peoples of Early North America by Gary Nash to name just a few. Not to mention the wonderful explorers who randomly killed Indians because they wouldn't convert to Catholicism! Honey, I hate to tell you this but the first explorers, mainly Spanish and Portuguese were not very kind. I just took a class on this last semester and was shocked at how the early colonists acted!

Are you kidding me? The spanish were ten times crueler than the english. The only reason the natives were spared was for slavery. American slavery was fueled by south american slavery. The cane sugar cutters of brazil, died by the hundreds of millions.
