I'd have to say Lego. I still have a giant box full of random pieces. Lego's great, because there's really no end to what you can make. Other toys like Slinky's and stuff can only do so many things.

Catepillar Bulldozer... (see my avatar).. While other kids were playing with their Tonka trucks and cranes.. I had the REAL thing to play on/in/around/with.. depending upon age.. I started driving them at the age of 8 yrs old.

now... for a REAL TOY... hmmm.. Vacuu-Form... it was a thing that heated up sheets of plastic and then you flipped them over a mold and pumped a handle to suck the plastic down and form it around the mold... made lots of cars, trucks... and.. uhmm...copies of my sister's dolls... etc.
