My favorite RPG's are "The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind" and "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion".
If you have a high-end computer (with an equally high-end graphics adapter card) and want a game with impressive graphics, then Oblivion is the way to go. But, if you like more variety, with a very non-linear game play, then Morrowind is better.

Hey,
I would suggest the "Movies" game with the stunts and effects expansion pack!
You will find the gameplay familiar to the Sims
You will also find a unique RPG element as you have to train your actors and directors.... to improve their stats thus improving your movies.
That might be a good well rounded suggestion for you before you delve way into one genre or the other.

there are loads of games like that. just google rpg and adventure games and see what you come up with. also you can try ebay to buy second hand games and amazon as well.
