My vote goes for both Rahul Dravid and Ricky Ponting.

Both of them have different views of batting but the ultimate goal is to lead the country to victory.

Rahul Dravid is a kind of player that plays silently and R Ponting plays violently.

Both of them lead the team from front. They play till the last movement.

They use the bowlers in the way that the batsman could not understand also. They use the power plays effectively.

More over both of them inspires the team continuously.

Keeping the above views in mind, both of them are the best captains in the world of cricket at present.

My vote would go to Rahul Dravid (the indian captain), for silencing all critics, handling the team very well, making quite a few team records, and notching India's rank from a low 7th to an all-time best of 3rd!! Not having such a good strike rate as his fellow teammates, he captained the side, tried his experiments, took good care of the utilisation of the young guns (In Ganguly's reign there were all oldies....) . Rahul Dravid keeps on getting man of matches as well as series, but also sacrifices his one down place, to middle order, or in dire circumstances - the opening pair.
Then to Graeme Smith for playing captain's knocks all the time to support his team. The South African Team once regarded as Australia's fiercest opponent, crashed out of the World Cup despite being hosts. Graeme Smith took over, then just 23 from the experienced Shaun Pollock to guide his team way through the rankings, and hoist them on the top again. Recently they beat the Australian team 3-2 and recorded the most runs by a team in ODI.
Ricky Ponting for maintaining the undisputed rank in both forms of the game.

There is tie between Rahul Dravid and Ricky Ponting.

Rahul is cool customer whereas Ricky is aggresive.

They both led the team from the front in both forms of the cricket.

There batting is also a plus point for their teams

Thats why they occupy the first 2 places in LG ICC Batting Rankings
