I finally broke it off with him after three years... although he has never physically hit me there was alot of verbal abuse... He also hit his mistress and she sent him to jail... now that he is out I have not contacted him and he sometimes calls and threatens me... I cant call the cops until he ACTUALLY does something... I have already notified my family and they are looking out for me but I still feel unsafe... help! How do I get him to leave me alone?

Hook up a tape recorder to your phone and record any conversations you have with him, and save any messages he leaves on your answering machine. Spend the extra money to get caller ID so you can choose to decline his calls, or block his number on your phone. Never go anywhere alone, and always make sure at least two people know where you are going and about how long you should be there at all times. I'm guessing he told you that the police would not do anything until he physically injures or threatens you, but in most states that is not the case. Do some research for yourself and find out exactly what the laws are where you are. Usually, he can be arrested for harassment. If he is telling you that he is going to harm you, then it is reason enough to call the police. Also, contact your local domestic violence crisis center. The people there can help you to force him to stop trying to be in your life. you can absolutely call the cops on him since he has threatened you. And verbal abuse is still abuse. You should also inform the police that he hs been to jail previous for abusive behavior. The police will take this more seriously since this is his past and clearly he hasn't improved his behavior. The cops will suggest to you that you go and get an order of protection. It sounds like you need to do this. Good luck with the x boyfriend and stay safe

You could always get restraining order against him. It usually costs money but could keep him away for at least a year. And maybe by that time he will have forgotten about you. But also by getting a restraining order, if he violates that, you can call the police. But make sure you DO NOT attempt to contact him for any reason. This could void your restraining order. Follow the officers rules and recommendations. That's probably your best option.

honestly you are doing very good but if he is still calling you why don't you have your number changed and call the police and notify them about your situation. once they know whats going on they will better understand what is happening when something does happen and they can respond to your call that much faster with less of an explanation.

You can call the cops. Record the messages and phone calls, give the tape to the cops. The most they can do is give him a warning, that will at least let him know you mean business.

Continue to be firm with him and tell him that you want nothing to do with him. Document everytime he calls you or has any sort of contact with you. A lot of times the police will at least go and tell him to leave you alone, but that's about all they can do.

sounds like you are weak. if he sees that you are weak than he will keeping doing what he is doing to you. all u have to do is lose yo mind one time. trust me i know, i kind of had the same situation like yours. you shouldnt make a man think that u are weak, then they will know that you will not do anything to them and doing anything they tell you to do. but if you cant do that, get your number change, move if you have to, or get a restraining order on him. then u should be able to get rid on him.

If he never hit you, he's not abusive, except to his cheating partner, and shouldn't be your x bf, but your bf. The only suggestion I can give you, is to relocate and stop communicating with him.

if he is calling you, CHANGE YOUR NUMBER.
if he knows where you live and/or work, GET A RESTRAINING ORDER
