I have a chinchilla and I was wondering if it is ok to grow my own timothy and bermuda and how I do so. Suggestions anyone?

i'm not planning on growing it in a field. Maybe in a long pot?

grow it in those long, rectangular pots used for window ledges.

Sew the seed in the soil and let it grow. Water regularly but don't overdo it! Once it's long enough, cut the tops off and lay out in the sun to dry.

If you can, have 3-4 pots (or as many as you find you need) going at the same time as you will then have a constant supply, just rotate which one you cut and which ones you let grow.

Once it's dry, don't keep it around, feed it to the little bugger as if it's not totally dry it can go mouldy if it's kept in a container and that will lead to a sick pet.

It would be a huge pain. You can maybe buy from a local farm, but for what it'll save you you might as well just buy it. A $4.99 bag of Timothy should last a chinchilla a fairly long time.

my grandfather grows hay. They grow it in the feild, then there is a machine that cuts it, squeezes it and leaves it there. Then they rake it a couple times a day for up to 3 days. then they have to bale it, then keep the bales from getting wet. And they still only get $3 for a small bale (the kind they used for horses) it's not worth it. Just buy a bale at the farm store. You'd need an awful lot of space to make it worth it.
