It wouldn't and didn't hurt the tires...that's Crap

It is not an Emergency Brake..it's a "Parking" Brake
Pull it in an emergency and you'll find yourself going backwards quicker that you can let go of the handle.
The Parking brake shoes/pads are probably worn perhaps completely.
Try the parking brake, if it still works your OK, if you have to pull the handle up much farther than before, you may need just a cable adjusted to account for the wear on the parking brake pads. If you have disc brakes on all 4 wheels, the handbrake probably put a lot of heat in the rear brake rotors for the first few miles.
If you drive and press the brake pedal lightly and feel it pulsing back at your foot the brake rotors are warped. If it feels OK , your fine. if your handbrake doesn't work at all, well, take it to a reliable brake shop.

The hand or emergency brake is supposed to apply the brake to the rear wheels when engaged. Have them checked by a reputable mechanic. You may have burnt the linings.

Well, you emergency brake shoes are trashed. Don't make plans on using them without replacement. Other than that, it's possible that you got the rear rotors hot. They may warp. Aside from that, no real harm.

It can wreck the brake shoes, drums, rear axle bearings and if it gets hot enough the tires. It would be a good idea to get it checked out.

You were ruining the tires, the handbrake, putting stress on the cable. You also put alot of stress on your tranny and engine.

You probably don't have an emergency brake any more. I would go get it fixed.

you will have burnt/worn out liners & wornout tires..... so do not do this ...
If you have already done this - get tires and liners checked.
