Does anyone else ever get a really painful bump on their tongue every now and then? I've been getting these bumps most of my life...and one or two just pop up from time to time. I can feel it if I rub my tongue across the roof of my mouth or my teeth. They are sometimes hard to see, but occasionally are slightly whiter or pinker than the other taste buds...or receptors on my tongue.

Anyways, I've had them since I was a kid, so I don't think it's related to an STD...I thought they were something everyone got, but none of my friends know what I'm talking about.

Any ideas what it is or how to get rid of them or what causes them?

My understanding is that this is the body's way to get rid of excess potassium. The bumps I'm talking about are white and uncomfortable and the size of a tiny pimple.I have gotten them off and on for years myself and I frankly pinch them or use tweezers to take them off.but your Dr. may have a better suggestion and a better explanation as to why potassium comes out this way.

I remember getting those every now and then as a kid, too. Adults used to call them "lie" bumps. Now that I'm in my 20's, I can't recall the last time I had one.

Sometimes if you eat something really hot that will happen. That happens to me a lot too, and it isn't an STD. I know other people that get them too, but I'm not sure what causes them.

I get them when I eat spicy or sour foods. I always assumed it was an inflamed taste bud.

I eat hot stuff all the time. That is not it.
It is stress. I am older than you and get them too.
Before I ever had sex.
Sleep more, stress less.

They're called canker sores and everyone gets them. They can be caused by too much acid or salt in your diet.
