Without updating or adding anything, you could use some cleanup utilities. Consider removing some programs and folders which you do not use.
Start with a disc cleanup
Start>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Cleanup
Usually, Temporary Files and Temporary Internet Files are taking up a lot of space, and you can just clear them out.
Then consider removing any prorams you no longer use.
Contol Pannel>Add/Remove Programs
Especailly if they are large programs.
If you are still not getting the response speed you want, you could try a disk defragmentation. You could activate before going to bed or going out, as this might take some time to finish.
Start>Accessories>System Tools>Disk Defragmentor
After doing these, you should see some improvement.

Depending on your OS, some of these options may not work for you.
Many times, it is spyware or malware that is running in the background that is causing problems.
You might try downloading a free spyware or malware scanner and running a scan.
Also, try unloading any programs that run in memory as well. Some programs that startup automatically (but don't show in the taskbar can be culprits as well). use the *msconfig command to see what is starting up and removing programs that should not be running.
(Start/Run then type msconfig )
*Improper use of msconfig may cause startup problems, make modifications with caution.

Defrag it. Download Window Washer. It will go througth and clean up your pc. It should run a bit faster. Turn off some of the programs that automaticly start when the computer starts. If your computer isn't trying to run so many programs at once it will run faster. Click on start go over to run and type in msconfig. you can select what apps and processes start up when you turn on your pc. That's about all I know. I hope it helps.

First try going in to the directories and deleting all your TEMP files. Then get rid of all the cookies your computer saves ... the more junk you load it down with, the slower it gets ...
Although, ultimately, it's the processor that determines "speed"
good luck

Try clearing the temporary folders and deleting some unwanted files (back them up first).
Also stop unwanted programs from running in the background. You can find them out by looking at task manager. Once you find out, type in "msconfig" in the run box. Deselect those items from starting up.
