Can I have it surveyed to determine where the property line sits, and about how much does it cost? How do they do it?

Go to your town/city office and ask to have a copy of the map that shows your property and your abutters. This is available to anyone who walks in and asks because it is public record. It will show your boundary lines. Check for yourself to see if its obvious and clear. If not, you can call a surveyor (look in Yellow Pages) and ask them for some help in reading the map. It just might be to your benefit to let them keep mowing your grass!!!! Less work for you ;)

Find a surveying company. Tell them you want them to survey your property and locate your property "pins". (metal stakes driven deep into the ground when your property was first platted.) They will find them and mark them with wooden stakes with flags on them. According to the size of your lot it will cost from $100 - 500. Make the survey co. give you an estimate up front. Hope this helps. ( 20 years in the land business)
