Good question, and I do it myself. Seems to be an automatic reflex, like we feel like those drops are attacking us or something!

It's easier to duck than it is to goose someone in the rain. The raincoats get in the way.

Because they don't want to go quack quack or they don't want to melt. (or their silk clothes will be ruined.) Personally I adore the rain. I love the way it tastes on my tongue and how the water makes me feel a chill even though it's 98 degrees outside. But, I love cotton and sandals and can take off my sandals and go barefoot and cotton doesn't ruin in the rain, so earth is wonderful.

involuntary action, rain hits head, duck, you have to train yourself not to duck

you'll lower your head so rain drops would not hit your face, and you will bow down so that rain drops do not hit the back of your neck or run down into your back and then run for cover!!!

I think they just put their head down to avoid getting water in their eyes.
