I am 34 weeks pregnant and I woke up today and my eyes were kind of swollen, later in the day my legs became swollen and also my feet. My ankles have been swollen before but not like this. I have also gained 5 pounds since yesterday. Is this normal or should I be concerned?

yes to an extent it is normal. lay down and prop your feet up periodically so that blood will flow well, leave off the salt, do not eat high sodium foods such as bacon or sausage, drink a few extra glasses of water, and walk for a bit for circulation. eat healthy and don't eat junk or fast foods, as they contain very high levels of sodium. Call the dr as well to be sure you don't need a test. Best wishes!

While some swelling is normal, severe swelling that is difficult to alleviate can be an indication of pregnancy induced hypertension or preeclampsia. My wife was working as a nurse while she was pregnant with twins. Being on her feet all day caused swelling, but she was concerned when hours of elevation did not relieve it. It turned out she had PIH (hypertension). These can be pretty serious conditions. I would certainly ask your doctor at your next visit, or if severe put a call in to the nurse at the office and have the doctor call you.

It is normal to have swelling feet up to one point, also probably you are retaining water, now If I were you I would call my doctor and tell him about the gain weight, is too much weight for just two day. But don't worry too much ...must of the time ..if you avoid salt, drink a lot of water and try to put your feet up for a while it ill make it easier to handle. I suffered swelling feet and hands on my last two weeks of pregnancy and also gained a lot of weight on those two weeks , I know is pretty scary looking at you big feet but don't worry, just call your doctor and let him know. GOOD LUCK AND CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR BABY!

In some cases it can be normal. Mostly if you are on you feet most of the day. Make sure you elevate you feet as much a possible. By the same token it could be abnormal. Talk to your Dr. about it. Sometimes HBP (hi blood pressure) can cause this. Watch your sodium intake and also ask him questions about toxemia.

well, my wife is 37 weeks and she swells horribly too. not her eyes though. the swelling is getting worse as she nears the end. prop your feet up and have your husband massage your feet. my wife loves it. The weight gain? I would call a doctor. she has only gained 20 lbs her whole pregnancy no more than 3 lbs a week at the most.

It is very normal to a certain extent. I had to buy new shoes I retained so much water. My feet looked like loaves of bread. Watch your sodium intake for sure, but if it is as excessive as 5 lbs. I'd call your Dr. in the morning just to make sure. They are used to getting all sorts of calls. Women worry all the time they know this, and pregnancy just intensifies our worrying. Give him a call it may just ease your mind.

Its called "Adema" & very Normal, this happens because as your pregnancy advances, your uterus puts pressure on the circulation to your legs and may cause swelling in your feet and ankles

You really should make an appointment immediately with your doctor - like yesterday! You probably should visit you emergency room - if your doctor isn't available. Call your physician if possible now - usually they will see you right away - when pregnant - and come back tell us how you're doing! But, you should go immediately to the emergency room or contact your doctor. It's important to take care of yourself and that precious life that you're carrying! Hope you and baby get the care that you need!

Yes, it's perfectly normal. Try to keep your feet up and drink lots of water, that helps the swelling go down. Also, turn up the AC, heat makes it worse.

Yes, it is normal in most cases. Especially when you are as far along as you are. My legs were swollen like basketballs, it was awful. I had to quit work early.
