The origin of the name Nickelodeon comes from two words,
The first word is Nickel, meaning 5 cents,
The second is Odeon, which was a old English movie house.
The Nickelodeon was an invention of the early 1900'S. It was a machine, with a handle, that the viewer cranked. The viewer put there eyes up against a glass. As the viewer cranked the handle, individual frames of pictures, would flash by. The appearance, was that of a moving picture. The Nickelodeon was a machine, that showed a movie, cartoon or serial adventure for 5 cents.
