I think it is unprofessional (let alone arrogant) for stars to say, "hey, if you're my fan, you'll vote how I want you to. You'll vote the way I do." I think America has enough sense to figure out who they want to vote for all by themselves.

I don't think its necessarily about control. It seems though that Hollywood is trying very to put some "enlightenment" to the masses through their works and many times, it looks like control. Maybe it really is, but on a more subtle and raw level. Rather, i remember a similar topic in a discussion about Brokeback Mountain, people are coming out with all these movies on the hot topics in politics because they've separated themselves from the audience with an attitude that permeates: " you are ignorant, so i will teach you." (Well, i'm sure it's much more good intentioned than that... but the ego is still there).
Hollywood moved from entertainment to art to highschool counselor.
They want to "control" America because they think Americans--even the world needs some enlightenment. (Which in all honesty, seems like a bunch of ignoramuses with big egos. )

Hollywood is about making money. The movies released reflect what gets them to that goal. Lots of documentaries are released every year, including many that you never see or hear about - even some with conservative points of view. Typically they start by playing on only a few screens. If one makes it onto lots of screens it's because people are paying to see it.
Incidentally, The Electric Car movie (Who Killed the Electric Car) is hardly an anti-Bush screed. It's in everybody's interest to have viable choices to gasoline. Even if you don't want to drive one, the very existence of choices will drive down the price of oil.
Who wouldn't want this (aside from oil companies?) I came across an interesting post this morning from someone who worked at an oil company, who detailed the work he participated in to kill the ZEV mandate in California. It's written by jareilly on this page:

Simply put, Hollywood likes to believe that they are at the forefront of what people think, which is far from true. In my opinion, they are so far removed from the general public that they should form their own country somewhere and leave us alone. Let them live in their own little dream world.

No one has to go see these movies. I don't think Hollywood is trying to control anyone. They have a right to put out any movie they want, but you have the right not to go see it.

Bush has a lot to hate, but that's beside the point. Hollywood is only interested in making money.

If Hollywood had even a slight hope of influencing the average American with political satire I will eat my hat. Face it, if you're not that way inclined, you're not going to bother seeing the movie now are you.

Hollywood REFLECTS America. It DEPICTS America.
Hollywood presents an ALTERNATE view, it does not necessarily ENDORSE a particular way of life or thought.
It is called ART not CONTROL.

Hollywood stars have a open mic and a open platform to speak all the garbage that they speak. They are mostly blowhards, maybe they should practice what they preach.

Movie people are so full of themselves that they truly believe the public is so foolish that they believe everything they see on the screen. Regretfully many people are so simple minded that they forget movie people make their overpaid livelihoods "making believe."
