One of the first documents of Karl Marx was a manuscript entitled Private Property and Communism. In it is his critique for various communistic developments, some entailing the move to abolish marriage in favour of a community of women.

Why is it these historical details go unmentioned, unrecognized in debate, e.g. the positive essence of private property (no one mentions that Marx had such a concept).

Ah ... people do forget that Marx was never a "Marxist" :)

His contributions to economic and political thought render him a giant in those fields, however much his ideas were misused in later times.

I think he will be shown to be more correct on many points than is now believed. What has been overshadowed is his youthful writing full of passion for economic justice, simple fairness to the laborers who created so much wealth for others, but received a minimal recompense.

Because he invented a system of government that gave some Russians the excuse to kill off tens of millions of other Russians. And nearly led to a nuclear war that would have destroyed our species.

What Mr Marx did in his private life is overshadowed by his other works. Who cares about his married life? I don't.
