If they made trucks (ford, chevy,&dodge) the way they did in the 60's there new sales would be cut 60 to 75%. If henry would have kept making the model t unchanged until 1970 there would be so many used parts that new saleswould have been 10%.( in theroy of course) Hey its just money.

My husband and I agree 300%. He has a 76 with 296,000 mi.-never any work done except routine maintenence. I had a 63 that I drove for 19 years and sold back to original owner in 1992-it still runs great. It had a 327(finely tuned) and got 31 mpg hwy. There was room to work under the hood, actually identify parts and do repairs, or "jury rig" until a complete repair was made. Have an 85 now and nothing but problems!!! Sorry I let the 63 go-he won't part with it. The only improvement in newer is "stereo", not the trucks themselves. A trip to wrecking yard will reveal more newer ones than older. Facts don't lie. Keep your truck!!!

I totally agree I own a 76 chevy 1/2 ton 4x4 and about a week ago i had a old fella hit me in his 04 z71 and his truck was totally smashed in the front and the only thing he did to my truck was bend the bumper down about three inches i heated the brackets a bit and bent it back into shape nothing beats an old chevy truck.

After 87 Chevy went to the crapper with thier trucks. I agree with you that they used to know what they were doing, they used to build some awesome trucks but times have changed and they want trucks to fall apart faster so they can sell more of them.

they still do. trucks today are more powerful, more efficient, and all around better. especially chevys. now i agree that the 60's were great trucks, but according to me i think all years of chevy trucks were good. i'm not so sure today with all these plastic parts toyota and honda are using. plastic cam gears, flywheels, cams...i dont buy foreign because i like my engine to be made of metal...not plastic.

Federal governmet safety rules took care of the all metal trucks.
All the makers knew what they were doing then... Why else are 40 and 50 year old vehicles still found on the road, even unrestored, they still look good.

It's all because of safety regulations. While the frames of trucks have become stiffer and stronger, the rest of them isn't really as good as the old ones, other than the better options available.

That steel dash used to bust people's teeth out, too.
Lap belts are uncomfortable but so is the alternative.
